CEREMONY: THE SPIRIT OF ARTEMISIA
THURS. AUGUST 11TH, 2016
MAHA ROSE BROOKLYN
7 - 9 PM
EXCHANGE: 60 USD
A ceremony of healing through the sacred plant Artemisia vulgaris, commonly known as Mugwort. Artemisia carries the luminous energy of Mama Killa, Mother Moon, which is seen by looking at the silvery sheen on the underside of her leaves. Native Americans traditionally burned Artemisia as a smudge to purify the spiritual and physical environment. As a plant spirit, her healing qualities support clearing and opening our channels of visions and dreams. She helps us to direct our psychic life into its proper sphere by opening our soul to expanded states of consciousness. Her medicine harmonizes the pineal and pituitary glands promoting hormonal balancing and her gentle vibrations guide us to realign with our inner truth and reawaken our intuitive, feminine essence.
During Maggie's travels to the Sacred Valley of Peru she stayed at Salka Wasi, the ancestral home of her teacher Don Américo Yábar and his son, Gayle Yábar. There she became inspired by a local curandera Doña María who uses the native Andean plant Marcu to heal the subtle body. She ceremonially harvests the Marcu by hand and creates bundles which are heated and passed over the body. She introduces the individual to the spirit of the plant and recites prayers of healing in her native language of Quechua. Maggie received a blessing from Doña María and the Marcu plant and now two years later, she is called by the spirit of Artemisia to begin using her leaves to heal the body in this ceremonial way.
The feminine plant we will use in ceremony is freshly harvested by Maggie on the farm she tends on the East End of New York. Participants will connect with the spirit of Artemisia through a handcrafted solar oil infusion, a group shamanic drum journey and an individual healing with the physical plant. Each participant will take home a dried Artemisia bundle to support their integration process and continue working with her medicine. Please note that no plant medicine will be taken orally during our ceremony. It is suggested that women who are pregnant do not partake in this ceremony.
