What is Shamanic Healing?
Shamanic healing is one of the most ancient practices of energy healing dating back thousands of years to indigenous cultures around the world. My path follows the Andean mystical tradition through the lineage of Don Benito Qoriwaman, as passed onto me by Juan Núñez del Prado and Don Américo Yábar, and I am a Mesa carrier of the Q'ero lineage of the high Andes in Peru. Through continuous journeys to two of my spiritual homes, Peru and Hawai'i, I have come to believe that many principles of energy medicine I share through my ceremonies may be traced back to the ancient civilization of Mu, or Lemuria.
My foundational practice is rooted in the Andean Cosmovision, a cosmic and earth based system which expresses the idea that the Universe is made of living energy, called Kawsay in Quechua. Andean mystics believe that as human beings we have the power to move Kawsay with our intent. The Cosmovision presents a way for us to understand and relate to reality through our relationship with Pachamama and the Cosmos. It shares with us a way of life, one in which we walk with reverence for all living beings. From its perspective, the entire physical Universe is sacred space.
Traditionally mystics and shamans, called Paqos in the high Andes, are medicine women and men who live in service to the joy and wellbeing of themselves, their community and the great beings of the Pachamama. These human beings live in Ayni, right relationship, with the forces of nature around them. They understand the beings of nature are alive and so they commune with the spirit of the four sacred elementals (Earth, Fire, Water, Air/Space), the mountains, flowers, trees and stones for healing and wisdom. The relationships of a Paqo are guided by Munay, the vibrational frequency of love from the heart center, and fueled by Ayni.
My intent as a Shamanic Practitioner is to hold a space of Munay and support an individual in moving the Kawsay within their body more freely again to align with the rhythm of the Kawsay Pacha, the world of living energy, and in turn support the human body's innate capacity to heal itself. In the simplest terms, we are bringing all of the various aspects of our being into harmony with each other by bringing them into harmony with the energy of Pachamama, the energy of love. It is the art of remembering our true nature and playing in the Cosmos of living energy. The practice of shamanic healing allows us to access a deeper awareness and rediscover the interconnectedness of life. Together we explore the potential to heal through the awareness of our soul-spirit nature.
During a shamanic healing ceremony, the individuals will and intent are the driving forces as we open to the Cosmos within, the subtle fields of the energy body. My main tool to support the healing process is my Mesa, a medicine bundle of Khuyas, healing stones, from my teachers and sacred places on Earth which are used to support the movement of energy. Additional elements I use are with specific intent to introduce Salka, or undomesticated energy, into the subtle bodies of the individual. I use sound healing, working with my voice through chanting and toning and the vibrational frequencies of a family of native instruments. I use plant and flower medicine from North and South America in various forms such as flowering water, flower essences and medicinal plants and herbs I harvest from the land I live. I may use feathers and the healing smoke of sacred plants. Sessions also include shamanic journeying, guided breathwork and visualizations, Andean prayers and rituals to support the individuals integration process.
