Even though we may not be conscious of it, the Moon, Cosmos, Mountains, Plants, Flowers, Waters and Sun live within us. When we become disconnected from these living energies, we often become imbalanced and ultimately unwell. It is through our filaments of light that we can communicate directly with these energetic beings in the physical world to come back into harmony and remember the truth of who we are.
Don Américo Yábar says, "Let’s imagine ourselves like filaments, just filaments of light, just that. These filaments are going directly into the beak of the great eagle of the universe. We are nothing else but filaments of light that are feeding the great consciousness of the universe. When we arrive at this state of conscious-ness – superior, different, and with humility – then we can vision these filaments. And if we can finally vision these filaments and acquire this experience with our energy body, we become just like children sitting in the lap of a great mother, which is the Pachamama."
Don Américo Yábar is an internationally recognized Peruvian mystic and poet. Initiated by the Q’ero as a young man, he is a Chakaruna, or living bridge of feeling between cultures. He is a master in moving energy and particularly adept in guiding Western minds in opening their hearts to connect their filaments with the Cosmos. I am grateful to call him a dear teacher. The "energetic passes" or energy practices transferred to him by the Q'ero Indians of the Andes deeply influence my understanding of Life, opening my heart and illuminating the undomesticated, wild energy of the natural world, the 'salka' energy.
Here I share his words to give gratitude to this beloved man, one of my very first teachers on my path. His voice dancing with the heart of the wind, his spoken words in Spanish forming a luminous poem. Perhaps the most simplistic and beautiful notes he spoke in my presence were these two questions he proposed. "If I can't feel a Tree, how can I love? If I can't feel the River, how can I kiss my children?"
Américo goes on to say, "If we accept the description of the filaments, we discover that all of us are simply children. We discover that we are sitting in the lap of a great mother, which is the Pachamama. Let's leave aside for a moment our personal arrogance, the shields and mental structures, and let's feel that we are little children sitting in the lap of the Pachamama. Let's forget our cultural face and let's try to recover, to remember, the first face that we had when we were born. That's our best face. Let's recall the first time and our first face and let's engage with the Pachamama. Let's feel it and allow that wave of energy to race through your body."
Andean Energetic Practice: Filaments of Light
In this practice we will be connecting our filaments of light from our fingertips. Begin by choosing the salka energy you would like to connect with and experience. It may be a loved one, the Sun, a rainstorm, a flower, a vegetable in the garden... Position yourself with your body facing this salka energy and gently close your eyes. Focus on the soles of your feet and your connection to Pachamama. When you feel her touch, bring the energy up into your heart and tilt your head up toward to Cosmos. Wait until you feel the warm touch on your face and bring this energy down into your heart. It is in your heart where these two energies will come together and meet.
Open your eyes and extend your arms out in front of you. Clearly set your intent by expressing, "I would like to connect my filaments of light to the energy of (this flower)." Slowly begin moving your arms and fingertips. The movements are unique to you and your ethereal and physical body. They often look like tai chi or qigong, with continuous and gentle sweeping motions. Continue moving your arms and your lower body for as long as you would like to experience the connection. When you are complete, express gratitude to the energy of (the flower).
