The full spectrum of light as we know it, includes gamma rays, x-rays, ultraviolet rays, infrared rays, microwaves, and short / long radio waves. The visible spectrum seen by the human eye is called visible light and is essentially the light of the rainbow with wavelengths from 390 to 700 nm. See diagram on left.
Looking at the diagram you can see, not all frequencies of light can be seen with your eyes. However, light which we cannot see with our eyes still influences our being. This is very similar to the idea in shamanic healing that various types of unseen energies can positively or negatively affect our subtle body, which in turn affects our health. Some sources of light can have a positive affect on our wellbeing such as native and thermal sources like sunlight, however, today we are exploring non-native light energies or nnEMF (non-native electromagnetic fields) which are low frequency electromagnetic radiation emitted from everything electrical / electronic in our modern-day world. These man-made sources of light do not support our health or our body's natural healing capacity.
Today research shows that the presence of light does affect our overall wellbeing. It is also understood that full spectrum daylight is important to stimulate the endocrine system. The endocrine system includes your pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries (in females) and testicles (in males). The endocrine system is a collection of glands that produce hormones to regulate your metabolism, growth and development, reproduction, sleep, tissue function, sexual function and mood, to name a few. Could this mean that nothing is actually wrong with your body, but perhaps something is wrong with the environment your body is in? Could this possibly mean that the presence of non-native light energies negatively affect this system of your body? I do believe, yes, from experiences with my health and those of my clients.
In my opinion, it greatly benefits all human beings to make slight adjustments in their life regarding their exposure to non-native energies. And, I do feel it is absolutely necessary for anyone with chronic issues (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual) to remove or decrease these man-made stressors from your environment. It is also very important for families with babies and small children, as their bodies are in developmental stages. I especially feel strongly about this for the increasing number of women who are experiencing infertility or miscarriage.
If you are feeling overwhelmed and concerned that you cannot control the total environment around you or the Earth as a whole, take a deep breath, and realize that you do have the power to control the intimate environment of your home and workplace where you likely spend the majority of your time. The term EMF refers to a broad category of electromagnetic radiation frequencies, so let's break this down and look at various types of EMF's:
RF (Radio Frequency) such as: wi-fi routers, microwave ovens, cellphone, cell towers, cordless phone, television, computer/labtop, bluetooth devices, digital devices, wireless computers, wireless baby monitor, smart meters,
ELF (extremely-low Frequency) such as: electrical power lines, internal building wiring, electrical panels, circuit breaker boxes, lighting fixtures, electrical appliances and devices
Blue light from screens (cellphones, computers, television, digital devices) and artificial light sources especially LED and fluorescent
Ionizing Radiation from x-rays, Nuclear radiation
Radiation from air travel
Now, the question becomes, How do I protect myself from these sources of man-made energy? Here are some of the ways that I have reduced non-native light energy in my life and what I suggest for my clients after an individual session. Please note that these adjustments are generally suggested, however when supporting an individuals wellbeing we look at them holistically and take into account their unique personal qualities and lifestyle.
If I'm working on my labtop during the day I use these blue-blocking glasses which block 40-50% of blue light. I rise with the sun and do not use artificial light in the morning. In the evening after the sunsets, I use incandescent light bulbs in my home and red light bulbs in my bedroom where I sleep. I usually read before sleep and will read with candle light (preferred) or red light.
I try to have my i-phone in airplane mode as much as possible, especially during the day when I am out and it's in my bag. I never hold my i-phone to my ear to talk. I never carry my i-phone on my body. when i take a call, I prefer to use the speaker phone option and place my i-phone down on a surface. At night my phone goes into airplane mode which turns off all of its signals. I never charge my phone at night in my bedroom.
I unplug my wi-fi modem from the electrical outlet during the evening before sleep and anytime i am not using it, Especially during the day when i am not at home because i have animals. If you can it is suggested to hardwire your computer and not have wi-fi installed in your home. *This is probably the most challenging aspect for those of you living in homes with family / friends or living in urban areas. when i lived in nyc for 10 years, i was aware of the presence of wi-fi everywhere, in my apartment building, walking in the streets, and in my workplace. for me this was a huge part of why i ultimately needed to move out of the city, since at the time i was trying to heal myself of chronic illness and disease.
I disabled my bluetooth system. If I need to make a call from my car I always crack my window or open my sunroof to create a pathway for the energy to move out of my car. In the not so distant past, I loved multi-tasking and making calls from my car but I would feel very spacey afterwards and realized this was an affect of the radiation. it is highly suggested to not make any calls in the car with a pregnant woman or baby/child.
I never rest my labtop directly on my lap. I do not use my labtop when plugged into a power source to charge. when i'm not using my labtop it is turned off. When using my labtop i like to cover as much of my skin as possible, especially my thyroid gland. I recently started using this separate usb-wired keyboard.
I had my home checked by an EMF Specialist who used a meter to specifically test all electrical outlets, electrical appliances (especially my refrigerator since it is always running), electrical fuse box, electrical meter, and outside power lines. I do not own a television or microwave. *for those of you living in urban areas, i highly suggest having both frequencies checked including rf and emf.
I opt-out of x-rays for instance at the dentist. For women, I highly suggest BREAST thermography over A mammogram.
This is by far the most challenging aspect for me since my work involves travel. I offset this by spending additional time in Nature, especially with the native source of light, the sun.
Stay tuned for my post next week, where I will share how I offset my lifestyle by spending time in Nature, connecting with the five elements.
